IntroductionThe Mobi Ready report is a report designed to indicate if a web site is suitable for viewing on a mobile device. A mobile device is assumed to mean a mobile phone or PDA, and variants of these devices including Blackberries, smart phones, Sidekicks etc. Many of the tests performed by the Mobi Ready checker are based on the mobileOK work performed by the Mobile Web Initiative group of the World Wide Web Consortium Testing methodologyThe ready.mobi report tests single pages at a time, or whole site. HTTP 3XX redirects are followed. HTTP Parameters
This tool uses a mobile device user agent string to identify itself when retrieving pages. This ensures that sites that adapt their output to the requesting device send an appropriately formatted page in response. The following parameters are sent: Download TimesThe reported download times are estimates only and are based on real-world experience rather than the theoretical bandwidths supported by each channel. The following estimates were used:
DotMobi understands that these figures are not necessarily representative for all territories and that in certain cases, both higher and lower figures may be experienced. Page Cost EstimatesCost estimates are based on an average taken across different mobile operators in each locale. In each case, the per-Kb cost from the mobile operators web site was utilized. Note that data charges change frequently and data plans frequently include different rates for different levels of consumption, and often include a basic bucket of data for a fixed fee, after which incremental rates apply. This complicates the process of making cost estimates. In order to simplify the process, the incremental per-Kb charge was used as far as possible. Scoring MethodologyThe scoring methodology for the overall report is based on a summation of the tests performed, but weighted according to how important they are for a good mobile experience. CreditsSome of the tests used in this report are implementations of the W3C's mobileOK level 1 test suite. Not all of these tests are implemented at this time, |
